RPMC History

Development milestones

  1. Sparse storage removed empty sample and instrument slots.
  2. Stereo separation and instrument key maps improved song preservation.
  3. Channel, sample and instrument surround state became explicit.
  4. Release hardening tightened input checks; names and default sample/instrument settings completed the song contract.
  5. C and JavaScript ports preserved complete numeric metadata, names, key maps, sample buffers and 44-byte events. Browser MOD/XM exchange and libopenmpt playback added local conversion and listening.

These milestones summarize the reference module's documented development. This website describes generation 26 only.
